Mack Emerman, Criterion Studios founder, dead at 89

Emerman had a meteoric career in the recording industry during the 1970s, recording hits like Eric Clapton’s Layla and others, with the help of other recording luminaries like Tom Dowd.

Criterion was sold to investors in 1988, and the studio now operates as The Hit Factory in its original location in North Miami.

According to a Miami Herald interview with his daughter Bebe, Emerman had been living at the Miami Jewish Home for the Aged, where he passed away on Tuesday morning due to complications from pneumonia.
